NT Textual Criticism

Contact Daniel B. Wallace

Dr. Wallace is an internationally recognized New Testament scholar with specialization in textual criticism. He is also a gifted and very personable speaker. Below are some topics and seminars that you might consider having him speak on.

"The Snoopy Seminar"
Lee Strobel praises Wallace's innovative Snoopy Seminar in chapter two of his book, The Case for the Real Jesus. Limited to 100 people, this seminar requires a commitment of three hours on a Friday evening and three or four hours on the following Saturday morning. "Scribes" copy out an ancient text on Friday night, then their copies are copied, and those copies are copied, etc. Altogether five or six generations of copying take place. The next morning the "textual critics" attempt to reconstruct the original text of "The Gospel according to Snoopy," using a few guidelines and instructions from Friday evening. But not all of the manuscripts survived, so they have to reconstruct the text with imperfect and later manuscripts. Over the years, Dr. Wallace has conducted this seminar scores of times. It has always been an exceptional tool for helping folks get into the world of textual criticism. They soon understand its mechanics, its importance, and what level of certainty we can have about the original text.

"Is What We Have Now What They Wrote Then?"
This one-hour PowerPoint lecture answers three questions: What is the nature of the textual changes that are found in the manuscripts? How many such variants are there really? And are any theological beliefs at stake--in jeopardy because of some variant? These are important questions that every Christian needs to know how to answer.

Dr. Wallace also lectures on Paul's letter to the Romans, the New Testament's view of Christ (known as Christology), and many other biblical and theological topics.
